Stephanie Johnston
Certified QPR Gatekeeper Trainer and the Executive Director of The Sam Asbury Foundation.
With graduate degrees in counseling and writing, Stephanie has spent more than two decades serving in nonprofit leadership, counseling, and ministry in both the United States and internationally. As Executive Director of The Sam Asbury Foundation, she is leading the development of the Foundation's comprehensive suicide prevention strategy, bringing together educators, researchers, clinicians, and community leaders to strengthen youth mental health across Georgia.
Stephanie oversees the Foundation's growing prevention initiatives, including QPR training, school partnerships, peer support programming, and community engagement. Over the past year, she has trained nearly 1,000 educators, parents, students, volunteers, and community leaders in QPR, equipping them with the skills and confidence to recognize warning signs of suicide, engage in compassionate conversations, and connect individuals to appropriate support. She is passionate about helping communities move beyond awareness to build lasting cultures of belonging, connection, and hope.
Having seen the devastating impact suicide has on families, schools, and communities, Stephanie believes prevention begins with human connection and a deep sense of belonging. Through QPR training, she empowers ordinary people to ask difficult questions, offer hope, and remind others that they do not have to face life's challenges alone.
